Into the Sunshine is a series of short films created by Brisbane based filmmaker Matt Raimondo that will take you into the lives of some remarkable Queenslanders, showcasing their powerful connection to the environment.
In this episode, Brisbane Greeter Blair Allsopp takes us on a tour of the Queensland capital through his eyes.
A storyteller at heart, Canadian Blair was first lured to the sunny skyline of Brisbane over 35 years ago as a young schoolteacher – subsequently falling in love with not only the city but also one of its inhabitants, who later became his wife.
Citing the balmy weather and relaxed lifestyle among his favourite aspects of the river city, Blair has enjoyed watching Brisbane grow and evolve over the years – a timeline of change he explores and details regularly in his walking tours of the CBD.
Although now out of the classroom, he’s still passionate about teaching: unearthing the history, heritage and great legends of the capital, and sharing his knowledge with those who wander with him.
Blair and his cohort of over 150 volunteer Brisbane Greeters run free tours of Brisbane’s CBD, parklands and riverside seven days a week. The Brisbane chapter is just one of 66 Greeter programs operating around the world, each dedicated to exploration, sustainability and an international network of friendship.
