This is the story of my mate Tim, who every year to celebrate his birthday he gets a bunch of mates together and has a surfing competition riding classic single fin boards with no leg ropes — It’s all about having fun with friends. [mr]
For the last six years this annual gathering has occurred every October at Currimundi Beach on the Sunshine Coast. Friends travel from as far away as Agnes Waters and Byron Bay to pay homage to the timeless single fin crafts and sip a few beverages together. Over the last two years the event has received some great support from some great companies who spark up the day with fine crafted beer, clothing, coffee, and wave riding gear.
This year’s event branched out in a new direction, through raising funds for the Disabled Surfers Association of the Sunshine Coast to purchase a new beach access wheel chair. Sweet tunes from a couple of minstrel buddy’s and dreamy Mexican cuisine were all washed down with cocktails and ales, and donations and sales went into a bucket of generosity.
Single fins are perhaps the most graceful and enjoyable crafts you can ride, rewarding the surfer with clean lines and cosmic energy. Soul arch or die…
